ANSON YOO

Addictions & Trauma Therapist

About the speaker

Since 2003, Anson has assumed pastoral, clinical and leadership roles with community agencies serving persons recovering from addictions. He has headed the first halfway house running a non-faithbased programme for the moderate to high-risk group, and has developed numerous inmate/family programmes, some still currently used in the institutions. He runs addiction recovery support groups in the community, and provides counselling services for individuals, couples and families. He also conducts training and clinical supervision for practitioners in the corrections and addictions field. Trained in working with trauma and dissociation, he also adopts brain-based techniques in his work that support the brain and nervous system to re-process highly distressing and activating experiences. Additionally, his approach in treatment is also collaborative, culturally sensitive and systemic in thinking. Anson believes that people heal only when they are embraced without judgment for whatever their life experiences had been, and when they are supported to turn toward their pain.
